SHILLONG, Sep 23: MLAs from the opposition parties on Saturday expressed dissatisfaction over the short duration of the just-concluded autumn session of the state Assembly.
The session was of five days and they said it should have been of at least eight-ten days.
Trinamool Congress parliamentary party leader Mukul Sangma said the members of both ruling and opposition parties tried to optimally utilise the time by raising issues of people, particularly those which required the immediate attention of the government.
He said although exhaustive replies were given in some cases, information provided was not considered adequate.
VPP leader Adelbert Nongrum said, “We are really dissatisfied as the number of days of the session was very less.”
He said there were many burning issues but all of those could not be raised due to time constraints. He hoped that things would be different in the future.
Congress’ Nongstoin MLA, Gabriel Wahlang said several questions were left unanswered. “Definitely in the future, I would like to see more days for government business and private members so that we can express our opinions on various fields,” he said.
Party’s Umsning MLA, Dr Celestine Lyngdoh said, “We feel that more days should have been given because the issues were many and we put those in the form of questions. During Question Hour, there will be a list of 15-20 questions but in one hour, hardly two or three questions are answered.”
“I would next expect a session of at least eight to ten days but certainly not five days. Nothing is done on the first day. In the remaining four days of this five-day session, we had only two days for the private member business. I am not so satisfied with this session,” he added.
