SHILLONG, Sep 24: The Shillong College Anti-Ragging Cell conducted an awareness programme as part of sensitising the student community of the college on the Anti Ragging Act, and to help them encourage acceptance and harmony in the institution.
Director of Meghalaya State Judicial Academy, KM Lyngdoh (MHJS), was the resource person of the programme. Her comprehensive knowledge and expert deliberation on the subject greatly benefitted the audience.
The Principal of the college, Dr E Kharkongor, in her address, stressed on the adverse effects of ragging on the holistic development and progress of students and lauded the Anti-Ragging Cell for taking proactive steps and measures in ensuring a ragging-free ecosystem in the college.
She added that the programme would facilitate character building and bring about peaceful and harmonious coexistence among students in the college.
As part of the Anti Ragging programme, a short talk on ‘Say No to Ragging’ was organised at the Shillong College Womens’ Hostel. The resource person, Kishore Ch Gautam, Special Prosecutor National Investigation Agency, and member of the Meghalaya State Bar Council, called the programme relevant, especially in hostels where most of the cases of ragging are reported.
He disseminated awareness on what constitutes ragging and shared on what action a student can take in such cases. The interactive session was attended by the hostellers in the presence of the Vice Principal EN Dkhar and other faculty and staff of the college.
