Shillong, September 29: Chhattisgarh police have taken three individuals into custody in connection with the high-profile jewelry heist in Delhi, where over Rs 20 crore worth of jewelry was stolen.

As per IANS, two of the suspects have been identified as Lokesh Srivastava and Shiva Chandravanshi, while the third remains unidentified. Notably, a significant amount of gold has been recovered, and reports suggest that this criminal group may have been involved in similar heists in Chhattisgarh and Andhra Pradesh.

A Delhi Police team is currently in Chhattisgarh, actively investigating the case. Nearly twenty teams from various branches of the Delhi Police are working together on the extensive probe.

Sources indicate that the meticulous execution of the robbery hints at the involvement of a specialized gang. During the investigation, suspicions arose regarding one of the jewelry shop’s employees who had been absent for two weeks, raising concerns about potential involvement in the major heist.

The theft took place at Umrao Jewellers in the Bhogal market of Jangpura, South Delhi. The owners discovered the crime when they reopened the shop after a day of closure, finding dust throughout the store and a hole in the strongroom wall. The burglars had disconnected six CCTV cameras during the robbery, making it one of the largest recent robberies reported in the national capital.
