SHILLONG, Oct 3: As relocation of residents of Harijan Colony continues to hang fire despite the idea being mooted several years ago, the High Court of Meghalaya has made a clarion call for every endeavour to ensure that the issues between the state government and Harijan Panchayat Committee are resolved in course of this calendar year.
During the hearing of the matter here on Tuesday, the court observed that despite the previous order of September 29, 2023, the state has said that there is still room for a negotiated settlement and that the parties should be afforded more time.
“The state will file a report indicating the progress made when the matter appears next six weeks hence. Every endeavour has to be made to ensure that the issues are resolved in course of this calendar year,” the High Court said.
