SHILLONG, Oct 6: Four names have been suggested by the search and select committee for the post of the Chairperson of Meghalaya State Commission for Women (MSCW).
Social Welfare Minister Paul Lyngdoh on Friday said he will sit with Chief Minister Conrad Sangma to take a decision. “…after that, we will be in a position to share the information,” he added.
The minister clarified, “…since this is a prestigious matter, let me clarify this involves just the chairperson and not the other members because they will complete their tenure”. He said the names will be made known soon.
The search and select committee was led by Commissioner and Secretary, Social Welfare department, as its chairperson.
It may be recalled that former MSCW Chairperson Phidalia Toi was removed from the post.
Lyngdoh had said that she (Toi) does not qualify to be the chairperson of the commission as she was involved in an election campaign, thereby violating the rules laid down in the Meghalaya State Commission for Women Act, 2005.
