Shillong, October 12: In an incident, a man from Karnataka took the life of his own daughter due to her involvement with a boy from a different caste, as confirmed by the police on Thursday.

As per IANS, the victim, identified as 20-year-old college student Kavana, hails from Bidaluru village near Devanahalli on the outskirts of Bengaluru.

According to law enforcement, the perpetrator, Manjunath, was deeply disturbed when he discovered his daughter’s relationship, and his anger escalated upon learning of the inter-caste aspect. Manjunath had cautioned Kavana about the relationship, but she did not heed her father’s advice.

On a fateful Wednesday night, a heated argument erupted between the father and daughter over this issue. In a fit of rage, Manjunath tragically took his daughter’s life by slitting her throat with a knife and inflicting multiple stab wounds on her legs and hands.

Following the horrific act, the accused surrendered himself at the Vishwanathapura police station. Additionally, sources suggest that Manjunath’s younger daughter had approached the police due to his opposition to her relationship. Last week, she had sought refuge in a government observation home for women, firmly stating her intentions to marry her partner at any cost.

This disturbing incident drew the attention of hundreds of villagers, given its proximity to the Bengaluru airport. It follows two honor killing cases reported in the Kolar district last month.

In response to the Kolar incidents, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah expressed his concern that such crimes reflect deeply ingrained caste systems, social customs, and regressive mindsets. He assured that the government would take legal action against honor killings and ensure thorough investigations to prevent any lapses in such cases.
