Guwahati, Oct 17: A team from the Special Task Force (STF) of Assam Police thwarted yet another drug deal and apprehended three peddlers during an operation launched in the Six Mile area here on Tuesday.
Official sources said the operation was based on source information that a drug deal was to be struck at a location in front of Rahman Hospital.
“Subsequently, an STF team under the supervision of DIG, STF, Parthasarathi Mahanta, and led by additional SP, STF, Kalyan Kumar Pathak, swung into action and apprehended three drug peddlers from a Manipuri rice hotel in front of Rahman Hospital at Six Mile,” a police official said.
The peddlers have been identified as Habibur Rahman (49), a resident of Kwakta village under Moirang police station in Manipur’s Bishnupur district; Alimuddin (46), a resident of Bhati Ghograchar village in Mankachar, and Idrish Ali (38), a resident of Kawoimari, Nagaon district.
Police sources said that 60,000 Yaba tablets were recovered from their possession.
A case has been registered and necessary legal action is being initiated.
On Monday, based on reliable source information, a team from STF conducted an operation in the parking area of Guwahati Railway Station under Panbazar police station and apprehended 12 drug peddlers, including four women.
During the operation, 104 vials with suspected heroin, 275 empty vials, cash amount of Rs 45,000, two scootys, five mobile phones and syringes along with other incriminating materials were recovered and seized.
Notably, STF teams have over the past few months been foiling several attempts to strike illegal drug deals across the state and apprehended many peddlers.
