Shillong, Oct 22: Meghalaya’s accomplished Taekwondo players made their mark at the prestigious 1st Bangabandhu Open International Taekwondo Championship 2023, hosted in Bangladesh. The competition showcased exceptional talent from across the region, and Meghalaya’s representatives displayed outstanding performances.
Alia Deisaka Lyngdoh, a rising star in the Taekwondo arena, clinched a gold medal in the Poomsae category. However, her achievements did not stop there, as she secured another gold medal in the Female Kyorugi category.
The male counterpart, Clifford Luiram, stood tall with a gold medal in the Male Kyorugi category.
In an impressive display of skill and determination, San Iktiar Magdiel Basaiawmoit claimed the silver medal, adding to Meghalaya’s growing list of achievements. Furthermore, Yusuf W. Tariang, Teinam Swer, Rinreiso Luiram, and Marcellino Rymbai all made their presence felt by bagging bronze medals in the same category. Safika B Dkhar joined the winners’ circle by earning a well-deserved bronze in the Female Kyorugi category.
Meghalaya’s Chief Minister, Conrad K Sangma, extended his heartfelt congratulations to the athletes. He expressed his pride in the state’s Taekwondo stars through a post on his social media platform, declaring, “Meghalaya is proud of these Taekwondo champions.” The state continues to shine on the international stage, as its athletes exemplify dedication and excellence in the world of Taekwondo.
