SHILLONG, Oct 28: The construction work of package 1 of the Shillong-Dawki Road project is likely to resume mid-December.
The work had started during th.e COVID-19 pandemic but was abandoned by the contractor after some time.
Officials said it will take 20-25 days to mobilise manpower and machineries to resume the work.
A flyover will be constructed in Shillong as a part of the road project. The High Court of Meghalaya, which is monitoring the project, is hopeful the extent of the flyover will be decided upon as soon as possible by all concerned, including the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) and the state government.
Asked if there is any plan to construct the flyover till Barik Point, an official said it will culminate before Anjalee Point. Officially, there is nothing in writing to expand the flyover till Barik Point, the official said.
Talking about the status of work in other packages of the project, the official said the contractor for package II of the project has been selected and an agreement will be signed soon.
On the large scale dumping of soil near Rilbong area, the official said the contractor will have to ensure that the right of way is not encroached upon. The NHIDCL has written to the DC and the SP to take action against illegal dumping.
The four-lane road from Shillong to Upper Shillong is a part of the JICA-funded Shillong-Dawki Road project. The stretch often remains packed with vehicles.
The project has been divided into five packages. Three packages are yet to be re-awarded after the previous contractors abandoned assignments.
