Shillong, November 3: A conman, pretending to be a CBI official, was apprehended by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for accepting a bribe of Rs 1 lakh from a railwayman.

As per IANS, the accused, Sadiq Qureshi, had posed as a Personal Assistant (PA) to the DIG, CBI Nagpur, and approached a Senior Divisional Mechanical Engineer at Central Railway (CR).

Qureshi falsely claimed that there were pending complaints against the railway officer with the CBI and offered to resolve them in exchange for a bribe of Rs 20 lakh. Upon receiving a complaint, the CBI set a trap and caught Qureshi red-handed while demanding an advance payment of Rs 1 lakh.

Subsequently, the investigators conducted a raid at Qureshi’s premises and discovered incriminating documents. The accused was presented before a Special CBI Court and remanded to the custody of the agency until Monday, November 6.
