Sao Paulo, Nov 5: In a thrilling showdown at UFC Fight Night 231, Jailton Almeida showcased his dominance in the main event, securing a unanimous decision victory over Derrick Lewis on Saturday night. The native Brazilian fighter, Almeida, extended his remarkable undefeated streak with this win, improving his professional record to an impressive 20-2.
This victory marked a significant milestone for Almeida, as it was the first time he had to go the distance to secure a win in the Octagon. Facing off against the formidable Derrick Lewis, Almeida’s performance left no room for doubt, with two judges scoring the bout 50-44, and the third judge scoring it 50-45 in his favor.
During the intense battle, Almeida delivered a remarkable 120 total strikes, connecting on an impressive 78.4% of his attempts. His American opponent, Lewis, who had a weight advantage of around 30 pounds, managed only 28 strikes at a 51.9% accuracy rate. The victory not only extended Almeida’s winning streak but also added another decisive win to his already impressive record. In contrast, Derrick Lewis saw his record shift to 27 wins, 12 losses, and one no-contest, continuing a recent run of struggles with just two victories in his last seven fights.
In the co-main welterweight event, Denmark’s Nicolas Dalby delivered a spectacular TKO victory over Gabriel Bonfim of Brazil at 4:33 of the second round. This win propelled Dalby’s record to an impressive 23-4-1 while handing Bonfim his first loss as a professional, leaving him with a record of 15-1-0.
Additionally, heavyweight Rodrigo Nascimento of Brazil secured a unanimous decision victory over Don’Tale Mayes from the United States, further solidifying his professional record at 11-1-0. (Agencies)
