Shillong, Nov 17: The much-anticipated Meghalaya-Mizoram match in the Cooch Behar Trophy, a prestigious youth first-class tournament for U-19 men, got off to a wet start as persistent rain played spoilsport on the inaugural day at the MCA Ground, Polo, here on Friday.
Marking the commencement of the 2023-24 season, this fixture stands as the first BCCI domestic competition to be hosted in the state capital. Despite the rainfall not being particularly intense, a continuous downpour prevented any play and hindered efforts to dry out the outfield.
The ground remained under covers until the umpires, acknowledging the unfavorable conditions, made the inevitable decision to abandon play for the day, officially calling off the scheduled proceedings around 2 pm.
With three days remaining in the tournament, there remains optimism for a decisive outcome if the weather takes a turn for the better. Although Saturday’s forecast hints at some rainfall, conditions are expected to improve, raising hopes for a full day of cricket.
Play is slated to commence not before 8:30 am, providing a window for the teams to showcase their talent and make up for the lost time on the rain-marred opening day.
After Dai 1 wash-out cricket enthusiasts eagerly await an improved weather forecast for the remaining three days.
