Major fire engulfs flour mill in city

SHILLONG, Dec 2: A flour mill located in Luckier road here was engulfed in flames past midnight on Saturday.
A massive fire broke out at the Magic Cook factory leading to damage worth crores.
According to witnesses, the fire started at around midnight and a huge smoke and the fire were visible from many parts of the city.
Shillong police confirmed that there was no loss to life and the actual cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained.
The inferno that caused widespread panic and concern among residents of nearby areas was finally brought under control by early morning as several fire tenders were pressed into service to douse the fire.
The State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) was activated by the State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA) at around 2 a.m to respond to the incident in a joint effort with the Fire and Emergency Services, an official statement informed.
Two teams of the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) led Commandant PH Khongsngi, and second in command B Sahkhar concluded the 10 hours long operation at around 12:40 p. on Saturday.
‘The fire was completely extinguished through the collective efforts of all the agencies involved’, the statement said.
