Shillong, Dec 7: The Meghalaya Teachers Eligibility Test 2023 conducted by the Directorate of Educational Research and Training or DERT has courted controversy after some candidates alleged that more than 90 per cent of the answer keys for both the primary and upper primary levels are wrong.
The issue came to light after one of the candidates wrote to DERT on Wednesday pointing out to the incorrect answer keys of the MTET 2023 conducted on December 1.
“This discrepancy has caused considerable confusion and frustration among the candidates who invested their time and effort in preparing for the exam. As a responsible authority overseeing the education sector, it is crucial to address and rectify this issue promptly to ensure fairness and transparency in the evaluation process,” the letter, which has since been circulated online, states.
The letter also requested the authorities concerned to conduct a thorough review of the answer keys and take necessary corrective measures. “Additionally, I urge you to communicate transparently with the candidates, providing clear information on the steps being taken to rectify the situation and ensure a fair assessment,” the letter states.
“The integrity of the examination process is paramount, and I trust that you will take swift and decisive action to rectify the inaccuracies in the answer keys. Your attention to this matter is highly appreciated, and I believe that resolving this issue will uphold the credibility of the MTET exam,” the aspirant said.
Another candidate also mentioned that she noticed the wrong answer keys uploaded two days after the examination.
She claimed that around 75 per cent of the answers were wrong.
“We want DERT to check the answer keys provided to us,” the second aspirant said, adding that as many as 97 candidates have decided to come together to raise the matter with the concerned department.
When contacted, a senior official of the Education Department said she will verify the claims of the candidates.
The KSU Education Cell will meet Education Minister Rakkam A Sangma on Friday to discuss the anomaly.
