Season of drunk-driving

The festive season is here in Shillong – when the air is filled with joy, and apparently, the streets are filled with expert zig-zaggers on two and four wheels.
These extra-happy individuals, in their state of elevated celebration, embark on a city tour that could rival a roller coaster ride. Who needs a theme park when you can experience the thrill of near misses on the roads of Shillong?
Known for its unique charm, Shillong is gaining a reputation for the post-nine PM traffic ballet, where the absence of traffic police turns the streets into a playground for merry motorists. The cars, adorned with festive lights and music that could be heard on Mars, create an ambiance that’s part concert, part high-speed chase. As we eagerly await Christmas and a brand new year, it’s time for our dear government to bring in some regulations that don’t just evaporate like holiday spirits. Let’s put the brakes on drunk driving and unsafe antics – because nothing says ‘Merry Christmas’ like arriving at your destination in one piece.
