Meghalaya earns top honour for digitising prison-related activities

SHILLONG, Dec 20: Meghalaya’s ‘e-Prisons Application’, a collaborative effort between the state government and the National Informatics Center, implemented at the Prisons and Correctional Homes, has clinched the top honour at the 8th e-North East Awards 2023, held at the Royal Global University Campus, Guwahati, on Wednesday.
The accolade, awarded in the category of ‘Digital Tech for Government and Citizens Engagement,’ was presented during the event held on November 24-25.
The project, launched on April 26, 2018, at Shillong Jail as a piloting site, comprises the e-Prison Management Information System (MIS), the National Prisons Information Portal, Kara Bazaar Portal
showcasing inmates’ products, and a PAN-India Project facilitating seamless data transfer of inmates across the country.
Organised by DEF, Internet Society, and CSSD, along with associate partners such as UNDP, WSA, and others, the event celebrated innovations promoting digital empowerment. E-Prisons, an integral part of the Digital India initiatives by Meity/NIC/GOI, encompasses a comprehensive suite of applications dedicated to prisoner management and related activities.
