SHILLONG, Dec 21: The State BJP on Thursday staged a protest in condemnation of the denigration of the constitutional office of Vice President and Chairman of Rajya Sabha, Jagdeep Dhankar.
A video from Parliament complex showing Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Kalyan Banerjee ostensibly mimicking Rajya Sabha Chairman and Vice-President Dhankhar had attracted the ire of many leaders.
The State BJP staged a protest outside its Shillong office in this regard.
“Insult to the Vice President is an insult to the nation. We condemn denigration of the constitutional offices of the Vice President,” read a few placards displayed at the protest site.
State BJP Chief Spokesperson, M Kharkrang expressed their sentiments in the issue. “We have come together because we strongly opposed the way the opposition parties have demeaned the Constitution chair which is the Vice President of India,” said Kharkrang.
He said, “It is not the person but the chair we have to respect. He is holding a constitutional post. Now, how can you make a mockery and insult the Vice President. It is an insult to the Constitution that we abide by”.
The State BJP spokesperson said, “This is our indication that we stand along with the Vice President and indicate our moral support to him that in spite of all these insults he should stand firm as for him the country comes first”.
