Tura MP hands over beautification funds to locality committees in Tura

TURA, Dec 21: Cheques were distributed among local development committees by Tura MP Agatha K Sangma during the Pre-Christmas celebration held at the DRDA Conference Hall in Tura, on Thursday. The cheques were distributed to all the localities of Tura Town in order to start the implementation works for the Locality Beautification Project in view of the upcoming Meghalaya Games 2024 to be held in Tura in January 2024.
Recalling the beautification of the town by the people during 2019 for the A’chik Baptist Dalgipa Krima conference, Agatha Sangma said that the Chief Minister Conrad Sangma was inspired by the cooperation and support of the people prompting the initiation of the Beautification Project for the ensuing Meghalaya Games 2024 to be held in January 2024 in Tura.
She further mentioned about the changes and development that are taking place in and around the town from street lights and streets going to every nook and corner of the town and various other developmental activities and also urged everyone to cooperate in this project.
Meanwhile, Chief Executive Officer, Tura Municipal Board, Rikse R Marak presented a detailed report of the Beautification Project of 2021 which was initiated and channelised through Department of Tourism in Tura, Jowai and Shillong in Phase 1. Seeking support and cooperation of the people to make the town look beautiful and welcoming for people attending the Meghalaya Games, she said that about four thousand plus athletes and officials will be coming to attend the Meghalaya Games 2024.
Earlier, during the programme, the chief guest along with other dignitaries distributed the cheques to the President and Secretaries of all Locality Development Committees.
A sum of Rs 1 lakh each was given to 48 Area Development Committees and Rs Fifty lakhs each to 47 Area Development Committees while Rs Ten lakhs was given to CEO, TMB for beautification of ten junctions namely, Ringrey junction, Gandrak Dare Junction, Chandmary junction, Hawakhana junction, Araimile junction, Noksik Gittim (Proper Chandmary) junction, Proper Chitoktak junction, Walbakgre junction, Akimbri junction and William Point junction.
