SHILLONG, Dec 22: In a first of its kind move, the State Health Advisory Board is collecting data on the commercial sex workers which will provide in-depth analysis that will be crucial for the state government to take necessary steps to stop the HIV/AIDS situation from blowing out of proportions.
“We’re working on it. We will also need to conduct extensive research and gather first-hand knowledge, so it will take some time,” Mayralborn Syiem, the chairman of the Health Advisory Board, stated on Friday.
He declined to provide more details, but he did say that they are planning a comprehensive study that will address every facet of the problem from the ground up.
The project’s goal is to guarantee that commercial sex workers take constructive action.
The advisory board will examine government initiatives for sex workers and gain insight into the difficulties they face in light of the rising number of HIV/AIDS cases.
