GM Pantsulaia Levan wins inaugural M’laya International Chess tourney

SHILLONG, Dec 24: Grandmaster Pantsulaia Levan of Georgia was declared as the winner in Category-A of the 1st Meghalaya International Open Grandmasters Chess Tournament 2023, here on Sunday.
Levan takes home a cash prize of Rs 3,00,1000. International Master Aronyak Ghosh (RSPB) and K Ratnakaran (RLYS) were declared the 1st runner-up and 2nd runner-up, pocketing Rs 2,00,000 and Rs 1,50,000 respectively. The tourney was conducted by the Meghalaya Chess Association, and supported by Government of Meghalaya and the All India Chess Federation.
In Category-B, Rituraj Tamuri of Assam was declared as the winner, taking home a cash prize of Rs. 1,00,000 followed by 1st runner-up, Prashant Kumar Singh of Bihar (Rs. 75,000) and 2nd runner-up Bishishta Ankesh of Rajasthan (Rs. 50,000).
The event hosted participants from 10 countries, which included Grandmasters from USA, Russia, Bangladesh, Srilanka, Egypt, Georgia, Vietnam, Uzbekistan, and Nepal.

Best Meghalaya: 1st Silkam Sangma, 2nd – Rijied Katrai and 3rd – Bobby Lyngdoh.
Prizes for Meghalaya (Category -B)
Best Below – 1100 (Open): Arano Rikrim Cheran Momin (1st) and Nangwanroi Wanshnong (2nd)
Best Below – 1300(Open): Pringprang Ch Marak (1st)
Best U-15 (Open ): Radharanjan Chakravarty (3rd)
Best North-East (Female): Alisha Lyngdoh (1st) and Gargee Chakravarty (2nd)
Best Meghalaya (Male): Wilseng G. Marak (1st), HD Sutnga (2nd), and Ranjit Singha (3rd)
Best Meghalaya (Female): Iarilyne Diengdoh (1st, and Aitilyne Diengdoh (2nd)
Best Under-10: Cheaha Nikgame Momin (1st), Advitiya AG (2nd), and Shlok Kishor Jadhav (3rd)
Best Under – 15: Yash Dange (1st), Chongkimbe M Sangma (2nd), and Mayukh Sah (3rd).
