Shillong, Jan 5 : The tourist taxi associations opposing against the increase in punishment in the hit-and-run cases in the yet-to-be implemented Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) has decided to end their 48-hour protest tomorrow (Saturday) morning.

According to the Khasi Hills Tourist Taxi Association general secretary, Bhaskar Deb a communication has been received from their counterpart in Guwahati to end the 48-hour ‘stay off the road’ protest in 24 hours effective from Saturday morning.

“I received a call from the President of the Guwahati taxi Association asking us to end the 48-hour protest and by tomorrow morning (5 am) everything will get back to normal,” said Deb.

He said that according to their Assam counterpart, the decision was taken after Assam Chief Minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma met the members of the Association and assured to raise the issue in Delhi.

On Friday all tourist taxis in the state stayed off the roads in support to the protest against the increase in punishment in hit-and-run cases in the yet-to-be implemented Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

The protest was a part of the country-wide opposition by cab owners and drivers.
