Former BJP chief Mawrie among ticket aspirants from Shillong

SHILLONG, Jan 5: Former BJP state president Ernest Mawrie and prominent lawyer Fenela Lyngdoh Nonglait are in the race to secure BJP ticket for the upcoming Lok Sabha polls from Shillong seat.
BJP insiders confirmed that the two individuals Ernest Mawrie and Fenela Lyngdoh Nonglait have expressed their desire to be the party’s candidate from Shillong.
Earlier, Cabinet Minister AL Hek was in the race to contest the polls but he, however, backed out suggesting the party to field a woman candidate.
Party sources now say that it all depends on the BJP central leadership to pick the candidate.
It may be mentioned that BJP has been after the Shillong parliamentary seat for quite some time. However, it has been unsuccessful so far.
