Properties of Dawood’s kin sold at auction
MUMBAI, Jan 5: Two pieces of land belonging to family members of fugitive gangster Dawood Ibrahim were sold for more than Rs 2 crore at an auction here on Friday.The auction had been organised by the competent authority under the Smugglers and Foreign Exchange Manipulators (Forfeiture of Property) Act, said an official.One of the properties with a reserve price of Rs 15,440 received the highest bid of Rs 2.01 crore.A total of four properties, located at Ibrahim’s ancestral Mumbake village in Khed tehsil of Ratnagiri district in Maharashtra, were available at the auction.No bids were received for two of them while the remaining ones received four and three bids, respectively, the official said.The same person emerged as successful bidder for both properties, but the authorities did not disclose his name.One of the participants told the media later that the successful bidder was a Delhi-based lawyer. BJP MLA sentenced to 2-year imprisonment
BAHRAICH (UP), Jan 5: A local court has sentenced a BJP MLA to two years in prison in a 21-year-old case, a jail term that could lead to his disqualification from the Uttar Pradesh Assembly, a government counsel said on Friday.Sureshwar Singh, an MLA from Mahasi assembly seat of this district, was convicted on Thursday for threatening a SDM in 2002, district government counsel Munnu Lal Mishra said.The court granted bail to the MLA after the sentencing, Mishra said.According to the prosecution, on September 2, 2002, SDM of Mahasi tehsil Lal Mani Mishra had filed a case against the Mahasi MLA at the Hardi police station here.The SDM had alleged that Singh had barged into his office and created obstruction in government work.The complainant also said that the MLA misbehaved with him and threatened him.On Friday, the MP-MLA court of Judge Anupam Dixit sentenced Singh to two years of imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 2,500.
