SHILLONG, Jan 17: The State BJP has declared that Meghalaya would benefit tremendously if a BJP candidate wins the Lok Sabha polls from the state since it would be much simpler to get the Centre’s attention on state-related issues if a BJP member raises them before the Centre.
BJP spokesperson, Mariahom Kharkrang on Wednesday stated that issues highlighted by BJP members or elected MPs from the party will undoubtedly be taken into consideration by the Centre.
In response to a question concerning the nomination of Lok Sabha candidates in the state, he stated that the BJP was still awaiting word from the Centre.
Regarding Cabinet Minister AL Hek’s announcement that he was eager to contest the Lok Sabha poll from the Shillong seat, Kharkrang said there haven’t been any official talks about it but the decision ultimately rests with the party’s high command.
In response to another question about whether the party would field a female candidate, he stated that while they would consider the candidate’s likelihood of winning, their names would have to be sent to Delhi for approval.
Speaking on the Tura Lok Sabha seat, Kharkrang stated that he was not aware of any candidate seeking the party ticket, with the exception of one name mentioned in the media.
It may be recalled that BJP vice president and Tura MDC, Bernard Marak has stated that he would be willing to contest from Tura seat if the party decides to award him the ticket.
