SHILLONG, Jan 24: The state government is likely to name the new chairperson of the Meghalaya State Commission for Women (MSCW) by the first week of February.
Social Welfare Minister Paul Lyngdoh disclosed that, in accordance with the published advertisement, the entire application process for the appointment to the position of MSCW chairperson must be finished by the end of January. “We have a deadline to finish the entire procedure by January-end. By the first week of February, when we sit for review, we ought to be able to choose the chairperson,” according to Lyngdoh.
He announced that the advertisement has been floated to allow any candidate, who has not been selected by the search committee, to apply for the position.
“Although they were not included in the search committee’s list of candidates, a few people have informed us that they are also quite qualified to serve as chairperson.
Therefore, we reasoned that it would be fair to let everyone apply, and the government would make a decision based on both individual applications and the search committee’s recommendations,” Lyngdoh stated.
The commission has been without a chairperson since June of last year, when Phidalia Toi tendered her resignation from the position.
