SHILLONG, Feb 3: The Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PMR) centre was inaugurated by Health Minister, Ampareen Lyngdoh, here on Saturday.
Located at a 100-metre distance from the Assam Club, the PMR centre is aimed at assisting individuals who experience or are likely to experience disability, to achieve and maintain optimum functioning in interaction with their environments.
It is also known as physiatry and seeks to promote healing and rehabilitation of patients who have suffered injury or disability.
The PMR centre will deal with the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of disease as well as the improvement of human quality of life by physical means.
Speaking during the inaugural programme, Lyngdoh said that she is committed to the cause and will partner with the stakeholders to channel the initiatives in the right direction with a positive outcome.
During the programme people championing the cause of the differently-abled were also felicitated.
Meanwhile, speaking to reporters, the Health Minister said, “We are a part of this very important intervention that Dr Rangad, his daughter, and, son-in-law engaged in.”
Stating that she was privy to some of the good things Dr Rangad and his family have initiated, she said, “This is an excellent project and I am engaging here in my capacity.”.
“Then we can look forward and see how the government can also intervene because the transformation I saw in some of the individuals today who have been a part of this programme and project is immense,” she added.
