Shillong, February 9: Rajdeep Roy, a Member of Parliament representing Assam’s Silchar constituency, has called for a comprehensive policy from the Defence Ministry to address challenges encountered by central government projects near defence enclaves, where civilian residents coexist.

As per IANS, highlighting the situation in his constituency, Roy emphasized that numerous families inhabit areas adjacent to military and paramilitary camps, residing on patta lands not owned by the security forces. Despite this, the implementation of key central government schemes such as the Jal Jeevan Mission and Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) faces obstacles in these regions.

Expressing concern over the denial of government benefits to the residents, Roy raised the issue in parliament, particularly when Defence Minister Rajnath Singh was present. He stressed the complexity of the problem, calling for the highest level of government attention and expressing hope for a new policy resolution from the ministry.

Roy also suggested that similar challenges might be prevalent in areas surrounding army camps across other parts of the state, underscoring the need for a comprehensive and effective policy to address these issues.
