SHILLONG, Feb 20: The state government has sanctioned an impressive amount of Rs 338.152 crore for the Tura Smart Town project while an amount of Rs 79.8 crore have been sanctioned for Jowai, taking the total investment to around Rs 418 crore. Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma revealed this while responding to a query from Nongstoin MLA Gabriel Wahlang.
According to a statement laid in the House on Tuesday, the projects which have been undertaken under the Tura Smart Town project include the PA Sangma Integrated Sports Complex (Rs 143 crore), Chandmari football stadium (Rs 8.1 crore), integrated hospitality and convention centre (Rs 56.2 crore), inter-district bus terminus at Akonggre (Rs 25.45 crore), beautification of Tura junction (Rs 12.45 crore), bio-medical waste treatment plant (Rs 4.5 crore), Tura internal roads (Rs 50.64 crore), construction including improvement of Tura town roads (Rs 18.596 crore), rehabilitation of roads in Tura town (Rs 13.826 crore) and street lighting (Rs 5.39 crore).
The projects which have been taken up under the Jowai Smart Town project include in-situ nallah treatment technology restoration with ecological units for drains of Myntdu river (Rs 19.42 crore), beautification of Jowai town (Rs 12.36 crore), rehabilitation/improvement of 32.6 km of roads in Jowai (Rs 28.8 crore) and construction of an integrated development complex at Jowai (Rs 19.22 crore).
Raising a supplementary question, Wahlang asked the chief minister to include Nongstoin under the Smart Town project to which the latter replied that the government desires to include all district headquarters under the Smart Town project and the same will be taken up in phases, although there are no immediate plans for the same.
As of now, the government is investing to develop infrastructure in New Shillong Township the Shillong Smart City project.
