SHILLONG, Feb 29: A war of words has erupted between BJP’s Sanbor Shullai and Congress’s Ronnie V Lyngdoh over the number of words uttered in the Assembly during recently concluded budget session.
A day after Leader of the Opposition, Ronnie V Lyngdoh accused Shullai of hardly attending the session and not speaking a word during the session, the BJP MLA on Thursday rejected the allegations.
Shullai told reporters that when people were in difficulty during COVID-19, he had spoken in the House about the problems faced by labourers, domestic workers etc., following which the Chief Minister earmarked Rs 50 lakh for every MLA to support people during the crisis.
He even recalled the time when he had threatened to resign from the BJP if the central government did not exempt areas under the Sixth Schedule in the state from the purview of the Citizenship (Amendment) Act or CAA.
“I speak every day with officers, ministers about day-to-day problems being faced by the people of the constituency,” he said.
Shullai stated that he has gone to New Delhi on several occasions to meet the top central leaders on important matters like Inner Line Permit (ILP) implementation and inclusion of Khasi and Garo languages in the Eighth Schedule of the Constitution for the interest of the people.
The BJP leader exuded confidence in the saffron party to again form a government at the Centre.
