Community devp prog in Tikrikilla sensitises locals

Tura, March 17: Amidst a growth in the services being provided by India Posts, Meghalaya Postal services, on Saturday, held its first-ever Dak Community Development Programme (DCDP) in the town of Tikrikilla in West Garo Hills (WGH).
The event was attended by a huge number of personnel from the department along with Nokmas and headmen from the area with the object of informing those of the newly launched schemes that the postal department offers including insurance, banking among others.
The principal of Tikrikilla HS School, Nagendra Rabha was the chief guest with Lekhi A Sangma, the principal of St Mary’s School being the guest of honour.
Further the deputy superintendent of posts, Meghalaya, Ritam Ch Dey and development officer (PLI), SP Dohling (Meghalaya Postal Division) were the other guests on the dais.
The programme sought to inform those that were present on the various new services being offered by the department of posts, with the increase in services coming under the aegis of the Narendra Modi led government with the approach being to bring government to the doorsteps of the common man.
Currently the postal department offers a host of services including banking, rural and urban life insurance, Aadhar cards besides letters and posts.
“The central government has decided that there will be a post office in every 5 km of the country so that government services reach the common man very quickly and efficiently. Our aim today is to make everyone aware of what we are offering and hope you will spread the word in your community circles so that the benefit can be availed by all,” said Dohling to the gathering. DS of Posts, Ritam Ch Dey also urged all that were gathered to use postal services to the fullest extent for the sake of the community while also thanking personnel from the department in their efforts to make the postal department in the state more robust.
“There have been 449 new post offices in the state with 254 of them being set up in Garo Hills to ensure services are closer to the people. Further from 2 sub divisions in the region, we have gone up to 5 sub divisions to better integrate services. We are sure that the increase in personnel as well as post offices will go a long way in helping people in all spheres of local society,” felt Ritam.
The programme also awarded the best performers in all 5 sub divisions in various spheres.
