PHE dept organises 5K and 10K Run ahead of World Water Day celebration

SHILLONG, March 17: As prelude to the World Water Day celebration slated for March 22, 5K and 10K run events were organised by the Public Health Engineering Department (PHED) in collaboration with the office of the District Sports Officer, here on Saturday. It aimed at spreading awareness on the pivotal role of water in fostering stability and prosperity around the world.
The events took place in and around the adjoining areas of Polo, with the start and finish point being JN Stadium, Polo Grounds. The theme for this year’s World Water Day, set by the UN is ‘Water for Peace’.
Syed Md A Razi, Commissioner and Secretary of PHED, was the chief guest, who ceremoniously flagged off the marathon, accompanied by BM Lyndem, Chief Engineer of PHED and other officials.
It is worth noting that Chief Engineer Lyndem also participated in the run, leading by example to spread awareness.
Winners of the 10K Run in the ‘Above 18 years (Male)’ category were Kelash Choudary (1st), Anil Pandya (2nd) and Emphius Nongrum (3rd). Under the 10K Run ‘Above 18 years (Female)’ category, Marqueenles Ramsiej bagged first place, while Phyrnai Kyndait and Darishisha Langjuh were placed second and third respectively.
Meanwhile, winners of 5K Run ‘Under 18 years (Male)’ were Sanctify Pale (1st), Fastborn Son Ramsiej (2nd) and Biness Kharlyngdoh (3rd). The winners under female category were Teilyntishisha Ramjsiej (1st), Lawanlang Mawlong (2nd) and Camilia kharkongor (3rd).
