SHILLONG, March 23: The State Police has cautioned the public against making any kinds of payments to any person or organisation.
In a statement issued here on Saturday, Director-General of Police LR Bishnoi said any payment to any outfit(s) will attract the provision of Sections 11, 13 & 17 of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967, as well as Section 4 of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act and Section 109 IPC.
He further said that the public should report such unlawful demands to the police for necessary action. Their names and credentials will be kept confidential, he assured.
Bishnoi said it has come to the notice of the Police Department that many people have been served extortion notes by banned organisations such as the HNLC and the GNLA through various social media sites/apps like WhatsApp, Telegram or through SMS.
“It is imperative for every citizen to understand that providing financial support to banned organisations, directly or indirectly, is a serious offence under the law. Such support not only fuels illegal and anti-national activities but also endangers the lives of innocent individuals and undermines the stability of our society. Engaging in any financial transaction with such unlawful entities not only violates the law but also undermines our collective efforts to safeguard our nation against terrorism and unlawful activities,” the DGP added.
