LS elections: All 11 nominations found valid

SHILLONG, March 28: The nominations of all the 11 candidates who intend to the contest the upcoming Lok Sabha elections from the Shillong and Tura seats were found to be valid during the scrutiny of papers here on Thursday.
The returning officers of Shillong and Tura parliamentary seats confirmed that the nominations of all the 11 candidates were found to be valid on Thursday.
There are seven candidates in fray for the Shillong seat — Ampareen Lyngdoh (NPP), Vincent H Pala (INC), Robertjune Kharjahrin (RDA), Ricky AJ Syngkon (VPP), Lakhon Kma (Independent), Peter Shallam (Independent) and Manuel Badwar (INC).
Badwar filed his nomination as a back-up candidate and will withdraw his candidature after scrutiny of nominations.
For the Tura seat, Saleng Sangma (INC), Agatha Sangma (NPP), Zenith Sangma (TMC) and Labenn Ch Marak (Independent) have filed their nominations.
The last date for withdrawal of candidature is March 30.
Both Shillong and Tura will go to polls in the first phase of the Lok Sabha elections on April 19 while the results will be declared along with the rest of the country on June 4.
