Guwahati, April 2: The highly anticipated Guwahati Half Marathon, organized by IIT Guwahati’s Techniche, is slated to take place on April 7, with a strong emphasis on promoting cleanliness and social responsibility.
During a press conference held at the Guwahati Press Club on April 2, the Techniche 2024 team unveiled the theme for this year’s marathon: “Run for a Cleaner Tomorrow”. The event is scheduled to kick off at 5:15 am from the Karmabir Nabin Chandra Bordoloi Stadium, Sarusajai, Guwahati.
The chosen theme, “Run for A Cleaner Tomorrow”, underscores the pressing need to address cleanliness and sanitation issues in Guwahati. Beyond being a platform for fitness enthusiasts, the marathon aims to rally participants around this crucial cause and empower them to effect positive change in their communities.
Rooted in the values of Techniche, the student-led initiative promises a packed schedule of events, competitions, workshops, and initiatives aimed at fostering social impact.
Samyak Sharma, Convener of Techniche 2024, expressed the event’s broader significance: “Techniche has always been a platform for creating a positive impact in the lives of everyone associated with the fest in every way. The Guwahati Half Marathon is no exception. By incorporating the theme of “Run for a Cleaner Tomorrow”, the event takes on a social dimension, encouraging participants to not only push their physical limits but also raise awareness about the issue of cleanliness in our society.”
As a testament to the Northeast’s rich sporting heritage, which boasts icons like Mary Kom and Mirabai Chanu, Sharma emphasized the event’s dual role of social responsibility and honor: “Techniche being a brainchild of the northeast region, it is not only a social responsibility but also an honour for us to serve the community of Guwahati and initiate positive change in the region. We anticipate generating excitement as we welcome participants from across India to Guwahati for Techniche and The Guwahati Half Marathon.”
