SHILLONG, May 3: The Shillong Manipuri Student’s Union (SMSU) on Friday observed a ‘Black Day’ in Shillong in view of the conflict between Kuki and Meitei groups in Manipur, which broke out on the same day one year ago.
While speaking on the occasion, SMSU president, Ch. Thangamba Meetei, said that it has been a year since the conflict took place.
“It is a very sad moment to witness this inhuman type of situation happening in Manipur. Many people from different communities have been displaced in various areas of Manipur,” Meetei said.
The SMSU president also questioned whether the Centre is competent enough to find out what is happening in Manipur.
“The Centre must come up with concrete solutions to resolve the situation in Manipur. It is very sad that children are unable to go to school, and daily wages are insufficient to support the family,” he said.
Stating that the government must take action to stop the immigration from Myanmar, Meetei continued, “We know that all of this is happening because of the immigrants from Myanmar.”
