SHILLONG, May 18: Outgoing Director General of Police, Lajja Ram Bishnoi who demits office on Sunday, called Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma a beacon guiding Meghalaya police through the labyrinth of challenges.
In his farewell words posted on social media platforms, he said he would be bidding adieu to an important chapter of his life that has been deeply fulfilling, challenging, and immensely rewarding.
Bishnoi praised Sangma, saying his unwavering commitment towards a drug-free Meghalaya resonated with everyone.
“We have marched forward and steadfast in our resolve to safeguard our land. The resilient and compassionate people of Meghalaya and their unwavering support have been our strength throughout,” he said.
Stating that the people’s commitment and their collective spirit to build a safer society were the cornerstone of their efforts, the outgoing DGP, in his message to the police force, colleagues, subordinates, constabulary and family members, said that words fail to encapsulate the depth of his gratitude for each one of them.
Days before his retirement, former Assistant Inspector General of Meghalaya Police, GK Iangrai filed an FIR against Bishnoi for tampering and misusing a vehicle registration number plate.
Within hours of the filing of the FIR, Shillong police also registered a case against its own DGP.
“Together, we have embarked on a journey fraught with challenges, yet illuminated by a promise of a brighter tomorrow. The strides we have taken, the records we have settled and the battles we have won in spite of numerous challenges stand testament to our indomitable spirit and unwavering resolve,” Bishnoi said.
Referring to the fight against narcotic drugs, he said their fight against the narcotic drugs was consistent and people highly appreciated it.
“So moving forward, I do so with a sense of fulfilment knowing that the future of Meghalaya is in capable hands,” he said
Meghalaya is all set to get its first woman head of police with Idashisha Nongrang, a 1992-batch IPS officer, being appointed its next DGP.
