SHILLONG/ TURA, May 24: For Sherwood School, Tura, topping the results chart has become a habit. The SSLC examination 2024 was no different. Anuj Chetry, a pupil of the school bagged the coveted first position in the Top 20 merit list in the SSLC, results of which were declared by the MBoSE on Friday.
Anuj scored 575 marks out of the total of 600 to claim the first spot.
In the HSSLC Arts stream, Menangmankhraw Kharkongor of St. Anthony’s HS School, Shillong and Gaurav Bharali of St. Edmund’s HS School jointly shared the top position in the Top 10 merit list, scoring 468 marks each.
The second position in the SSLC was bagged by Aleytheia Syiemlieh of St. Margaret’s HS School, Shillong (574 marks) while the third position was secured by Congenial Kharsahnoh of Christian Academy, Shillong (571 marks).
The fourth position was jointly bagged by Aime Azora G Momin of St. Xavier’s HS School, Tura and Wanma Sangma of St. Thomas HS School, Mendipathar, with both scoring 568 marks.
Neiniwanroi Nongtdeh of Synod HS School secured the 5th position with 566 marks.
Others in the merit list include Prantika Deb of All Saints’ Diocesan HS School, Shillong and Ayumi M Momin of Sherwood School, Tura (joint 6th); Graham Bel Kharmyndai of St. Gabriel’s HS School, Upper Shillong (7th); Shabnam Sheikh of St. Mary’s HS School, Shillong and Elahunshisha Mawlong of Synod HS School, Shillong (joint 8th); Obadiah Namaan B Sangma of Aeroville HS School, Tura (9th) and Dauniwan Sajem of Shangpung Presbyterian HS School (10th).
As many as 37 students made it to the Top 20 merit list in the SSLC.
In the HSSLC Arts stream, Tanisha Das and Salseng Marak, both of Don Bosco College (Hr Sec Section), Tura were placed in the second and third position, scoring 451 and 450 marks, respectively.
Naaz Bashar of St. Mary’s HS School, Shillong secured the 4th position while Hamekhrawbok Kharshiing of St. Edmund’s HS School bagged the 5th position.
Others in the Top 10 merit list of HSSLC Arts include John Vianney Lyngdoh of St. John Bosco Boys’ HS School, Sohra (6th); Fredrique Gweneth Ryngkhlem of North Liberty HS School, Jowai (7th); Rimika Esther Dkhar of Laban Bengalee Girls’ HS School, Shillong, Kyrmenlang Nongrum of Village Durbar HS School, Swer and Pynbhashisha Nongbri of Auxilium Girls’ HS School, Shillong (joint 8th); Zephaniah Banphiralang Nongbri of St. Anthony’s HS School, Shillong, Risalanaki Laloo of St. Anthony’s HS School, Shillong, Emiheisakiru L Thubru of St. Edmund’s HS School, Shillong, and Sneha Ghosh of St. Mary’s HS School, Shillong (joint 9th) and Monkynjailin Syngkon of St. Dominic’s HS School, Mawkyndeng (10th).
Out of 54,134 students from 679 schools, 30,207 cleared the SSLC examination while 21,833 out of 27,374 students from 251 schools who wrote the HSSLC exams were declared successful.
The highest pass percentage of 78.34 was bagged by West Jaintia District while North Garo Hills registered the lowest pass percentage of 23.88 in the SSLC.
In the HSSLC examination, Eastern West Khasi Hills District recorded the highest pass percentage at 92.32 while South Garo Hills was at the bottom with 56.30 per cent.
The state recorded an overall pass percentage of 55.80 per cent in the SSLC examination and 79.76 per cent in the HSSLC examination.
Last year the State had recorded 51.93 per cent in the SSLC examination and a pass percentage of 80.30 per cent in the HSLC examination.
SSLC results: Garo Hills shows improvement
On a heartening note, the SSLC results are out and not only has Garo Hills shone through some individual brilliance, collectively too, the region has shown improvement, this time registering one of its highest pass % in close to a decade.
Last year the region had secured an overall pass % close to 29 and with more than a 6% jump in numbers, education in the region could be heading the right way.
This year a total of 24,527 students took the SSLC exam with 8,797 of them passing the grade. The best performing district was West Garo Hills (WGH) with 4,524 students out of 10,604 getting through for an overall pass percentage of 42.66.
East Garo Hills followed closely behind with 1,177 students out of 2,946 making the grade for a pass % of 39.95. SGH on the other hand saw 957 students make the cut out of 2,714 (35.26%) followed by SWGH with 1,039 out of 3,657 (28.41%).
NGH took the wooden spoon with only 1,100 out of 4,606 students making the cut (23.88%).
