SHILLONG, May 28: The Voice of the People Party (VPP) on Tuesday slammed the state government for not acting promptly in paying land compensation for road projects. The party said that while the National Highway Infrastructure Development Corporation Ltd (NHIDCL) and the state government indulge in blame game, it is the public which is at the receiving end.
The VPP expressed concern over reports that the NHIDCL might terminate the road projects in the state since the state government had failed to act with urgency to complete the payment of land compensation for the Shillong Western Bypass.
Member of VPP Media Cell, Rusievan Shangpliang, said, “It is unacceptable if the NHIDCL is forced to abandon the road projects in view of the delayed action or inaction of the state government.
Shangpliang reminded that it is important to remind that the centrally-funded schemes for these road projects should be taken seriously by the  state government. “It is shameful to see the habitual slackness of the state government and the irresponsible attitude towards the plight of the people that at several times the High Court has to step in to intervene and direct the state government to assist the NHIDCL in resolving the issues pertaining to the acquisition of land and payment of compensation,” he said.
