NEHU initiative to lift regional innovation

SHILLONG, June 13: The North-Eastern Hill University (NEHU) has inaugurated its new Entrepreneurship Development Centre (EDC), an initiative which aims to enhance entrepreneurial activities and innovation in the region. Funded by the North Eastern Council (NEC) and the Indian Institute of Entrepreneurship (IIE), Guwahati, the EDC aims to support students, faculty, and the broader community in fostering entrepreneurial skills.
The inauguration ceremony featured NEHU’s Vice-Chancellor, Prabha Shankar Shukla, alongside officials from NEHU and IIE Guwahati. Joining virtually were Pranab Kumar Sarma, Project Director, and Himanshu Barman, Nodal Coordinator from IIE, Guwahati.
Project leader of the EDC, Dinesh Bhatia, outlined the centre’s vision and objectives, which include mentorship programmes, workshops, awareness camps, and access to incubation and funding opportunities. These initiatives are designed to cultivate entrepreneurial skills and knowledge among students and faculty.
Shukla highlighted the critical role of entrepreneurship in economic and societal development, noting that the EDC is part of a broader initiative to foster a culture of innovation in the North Eastern region. He emphasised the centre’s potential to nurture innovative ideas and provide essential support to aspiring entrepreneurs within the university and local community.
The establishment of the EDC at NEHU marks a significant step towards creating a vibrant entrepreneurial ecosystem in the region and also emphasize NEHU’s commitment to progress and collaborations that aim for development.
