SHILLONG, June 14: Unknown miscreants broke into three of the PHE pump houses at Umpling on Monday and Tuesday and purloined items.
One Dremsing Shadap had lodged a complaint that on June 10, unknown miscreant(s) broke into the PHE pump house at Umpling Dongsharum Block-IV, Shillong and stole cables valued around Rs. 20,000.
When contacted, Umpling Rangbah Shnong SF Pyngrope said the miscreants had first broken into two pump houses on the first day, and on the second day, they managed to break into the third pump house in the locality.
He said that they strongly suspect that the break-in and subsequent theft could be the handiwork of drug addicts.
The Umpling Rangbah Shnong, at the same time, did not rule out that there could be boys from the locality who could be involved in the crime.
Informing that the Dorbar Shnong and the Seng Samla have started to conduct patrol in the locality, Pyngrope said, “We are concerned that this kind of theft case has taken place in the locality. But this phenomenon is not restricted only to our locality since similar kind of theft cases are reported in many localities.”
Meanwhile, he also urged the police to remain vigilant of the drugs addicts.
