Downpour, landslides cause severe damage in SWKH

MAWKYRWAT, June 15: Heavy rainfall accompanied by strong winds wreaked havoc in various parts of South West Khasi Hills on Friday night, destroying houses, public property and cutting off the Mawrap-Mawsain road following a major landslide.
According to official sources, landslides severely damaged three houses in Manad village, one house in Lummawbah village, two houses in Mawpud village and one house in Sarin village.
Additionally, strong winds caused significant damage to one house in Mawkhlaidngap village by blowing its roof.
It was also informed that a total of 43 people were affected by these incidents, though no casualties were reported.
According to sources, the heavy rainfall also damaged two footpaths, constructed under the MGNREGS, in Sarin and Mawpud villages.
Meanwhile, locals reported that the Mawrap-Mawsain road was cut off by a major landslide near Jerlang village, approximately 17 kilometers from Mawkyrwat.
