NONGPOH, June 17: A 40-year-old man from Nongpoh was found hanging in an abandoned house on Monday morning.
The man, identified as Suku Mejar, is a resident of Downgate, Nongpoh.
Upon the discovery of the body, the villagers informed the village leaders, who subsequently notified the police.
Villagers informed that the deceased was a father of four children. However, he no longer lived with them and was homeless.
They said that he worked as a daily wage labourer wherever he could find work and slept wherever he could.
The deceased had used a fishing line to hang himself, and his body was found by the villagers around 10 am.
Upon the arrival of the police, the body was taken down in the presence of family members and later shifted to the Nongpoh Civil Hospital morgue for necessary legal formalities.
Some villagers speculated that Mejar might have died by suicide due to poverty, life difficulties, homelessness, and loneliness.
