Four children among 5 drown in waterfall
PUNE, June 30 : Five persons including a woman and four minor kids, were washed away and drowned downstream at the famed hill station of Lonavala on Sunday, a police official said. Police said that the tragedy occurred around 2 p.m. when the victims and some others had gone to enjoy the waterfall, flowing in the hilly forests near the Bhushi Dam.As per preliminary information, the woman is aged around 40 and the children are aged between 4 and 8 years-all reported to be from Sayyed Nagar in Pune.Locals said that they may have slipped on the mossy stones at the base of the falls, got carried away in the force of the water and met a watery end, though exact details are awaited.Rescue teams of locals and police, armed with ropes and trekking gear, have rushed to the tragedy site to remove the victims, police said. Sarpanch guns down woman, injures girl over dispute
DATIA, (MP) June 30: A sarpanch of a village allegedly shot a woman dead and injured a girl following a dispute in Madhya Pradesh’s Datia district, police said on Sunday.A quarrel broke out between one of the villagers, Ratiram Yadav, and sarpanch Arvind Yadav’s brother Ravindra while they were consuming alcohol together, he said.While some villagers immediately pacified them, the sarpanch and his accomplices later reached Ratiram’s house and opened fire, the official said.Ratiram’s daughter-in-law Ahilya died, and his niece sustained injuries in the firing and is undergoing treatment at the district hospital, police said.A case has been registered against the sarpanch and 12 other accused who are absconding. NIA arrests 2 for ‘radicalising’ youngsters
NEW DELHI, June 30: The NIA on Sunday arrested two men, associated with international pan-Islamist organisation Hizb-ut-Tahrir, for allegedly radicalising youngsters in Tamil Nadu.The arrested men have been identified as Abdul Rehman and Mujibur Rehman.The duo, who were arrested following extensive searches at 10 locations in five districts of the southern state, they were working to re-establish the Islamic caliphate and enforce the constitution written by the outfit’s founder, the NIA said.“NIA investigations revealed that they were involved in conducting secret classes to radicalise youth in extremist ideologies, promoting democracy and the Indian Constitution, law and judiciary etc. as anti-Islamic,” the statement said.
