Body of man who drowned in Umiam river recovered

NONGPOH, July 3: The body of Khring Lyngshiang, who was swept away by the strong currents of the Umiam river on Sunday, was recovered on Wednesday downstream by his relatives.
Khring Lyngshiang, a 39-year-old resident of Khyndewso village, was reported missing after he was carried away by the river following heavy rains on Sunday.
Since then, his relatives and villagers from Khyndewso had been tirelessly searching for him, but it wasn’t until today that they found his body.
Upon recovery, the body was brought back to Lyngshiang’s residence in Khyndewso village.
The Mawlasnai Police, after being informed of the discovery, arrived at the scene to conduct a thorough investigation into the incident.
The family, expressing no suspicion regarding the circumstances of his death, requested that no post-mortem be conducted.
After completing the necessary formalities, the police handed over the body to Lyngshiang’s relatives for the final rites.
