SHILLONG, July 6: Rekha Sharma, Chairperson of the National Commission for Women (NCW), along with a high-level delegation, will visit Shillong from July 7-9 for a workshop and regional conference focused on women entrepreneurs involved in non-timber forest produce (NTFP).
The two-day Regional Capacity Building Workshop and Conference titled ‘Promoting Entrepreneurship among Indigenous Women of NER based on Non-Timber Forest Produce’ will be held at the State Convention Centre, Shillong, on July 8 and 9.
This event will feature sessions on market dynamics, technology adoption, value chain challenges and income augmentation. It aims to bring together key stakeholders from various sectors, including State Women Commissions, line departments such as Forest and AYUSH, and subject matter experts, to develop actionable plans and strategies for sustainable economic development through NTFP-based entrepreneurship.
Expected outcomes of the conference include the development of strategies for market integration and technology adoption to enhance business operations and market reach, identification of bottlenecks and creation of action plans to overcome value chain challenges, enhancement of efficiency and profitability, generation of innovative ideas for diversifying income streams, and fostering a collaborative environment for promoting NTFP-based entrepreneurship among indigenous women in the North Eastern Region (NER).
On July 8, about 200 rural women entrepreneurs, cultivators, self-help group (SHG) members and traditional medicinal plant growers will attend the event.
On July 9, officials and stakeholders, including academic scholars and industry practitioners, will join the conference at the State Convention Centre, Shillong.
