Pala confident of Congress resurgence

SHILLONG, July 14: Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) president, Vincent H Pala is confident of a Congress resurgence in Meghalaya. The former three-time Lok Sabha member said nothing is permanent in politics and the tables may turn in the state before the 2028 Assembly polls.
“Time will tell if the MDC elections will be held this year or the next year and the MLA elections have a long time to go. Nothing can be said for certain. The NPP may correct themselves and the VPP may make a mistake. It is too early to predict now,” Pala said, while talking about the current state of affairs in Meghalaya politics.
“Congress has always followed the same ideology, and has a dedicated team. I don’t want to say much but it depends on the elections. Politics is dynamic and not as easy as people think,” he added.
He observed that the VPP is currently on a high, the NPP and the UDP are grappling with the issue of growing anti-incumbency against them and the TMC appears to be struggling to survive.
However, the recent electoral win of the State Congress in Tura constituency has elevated the party’s position, he stated.
Asked about reports of many former Congress leaders wanting to rejoin the party, Pala said the reports are rumours.
“I don’t think so. There has been no communication from any end, not even Dr Mukul Sangma,” he added.
