29-year-old man held for brutal machete attack on wife, in-laws

MAWKYRWAT, July 15: A 29-year-old man has been arrested by Mawkyrwat Police for attacking three women, including his wife, with a machete, leaving them with severe injuries.
The incident occurred on the night of July 12 around 10:30 pm in Shaid Shaid Umoid, located 15 kilometres from Mawkyrwat in South West Khasi Hills.
The perpetrator, identified as Comingstar Lyngdoh Nonglait (29), was reportedly under the influence of alcohol when he assaulted his wife, Ribahun Kharwar (23), his mother-in-law, Ridalin Kharwar (43), and his sister-in-law, Wandashisha Kharwar (19), at their residence.
Police sources informed that all three women sustained major injuries and were immediately transported to Civil Hospital Mawkyrwat for treatment.
Due to the severity of their injuries, they were later referred to Civil Hospital Shillong for better care.
The next day, the family members of the victims filed an FIR at Mawkyrwat Police Station against the accused. The case has been registered, and law enforcement sources confirmed that the accused surrendered himself at the Mawkyrwat Police Station around 10:30 am on the same day.
