Woman reaches Taj Mahal with kanwar, tries to offer ‘Gangajal’
Agra, July 29: A member of a right-wing group carrying kanwar on her shoulders tried to enter the Taj Mahal to offer ‘Gangajal’ on Monday, with the group claiming that the monument was a Lord Shiva temple called ‘Tejo Mahalaya’. However, she was stopped by the policemen of ‘Taj Suraksha’ deployed at the barrier of the west gate of the Taj Mahal, ACP, Taj Suraksha, Syed Areeb Ahmad told PTI. “After some time, she decided on her own to offer the ‘Gangajal’ at the Rajeshwar temple,” Ahmad added. Meenu Rathore, who claimed herself to be the district president of the Akhil Bharat Hindu Mahasabha in Agra, insisted police officials to allow her to offer the ‘Gangajal’ in “Tejo Mahalaya”. She further claimed that Lord Shiva came in her dreams and asked her to offer the ‘Gangajal’ at the monument. (PTI)
Man dies by suicide while on video call with wife in Indore
Indore, July 29: A 30-year-old man allegedly committed suicide during a video call with his wife, who recorded the act, in Madhya Pradesh’s Indore district, police said on Monday. Manoj Nirmal, a resident of the Pardeshipura police station area, made a video call to his wife on Sunday and hanged himself from the ceiling fan, Additional DCP Amarendra Singh said. The couple had a marital discord, and the woman was living with her parents. The man was a delivery agent with a private firm, he said. Nirmal’s wife recorded a video of the act on her mobile phone, and the police have recovered it, the official said. (PTI)
India loses 528 elephants in 5 years: Govt
New Delhi, July 29: India lost 528 elephants in the last five years due to unnatural causes, including poaching, poisoning, electrocution, and train accidents, the government informed Parliament on Monday. In response to a question by BJP MPs Jayanta Kumar Roy and Sangeeta Kumari Singh Deo, Union Minister of State for Environment Kirti Vardhan Singh told the Lok Sabha that 392 elephants died from electrocution and 73 were killed in train accidents during this period. Fifty elephants were killed by poachers and 13 succumbed to poisoning, he said. (PTI)
Woman’s hair chopped, face blackened in UP
Pratapgarh, July 29: A married woman was tied to a tree, her hair chopped and face blackened on orders of a panchayat for allegedly having an affair with a man from her village, police said on Monday. According to police, 15 people have been arrested in connection with the incident which took place in Chhotki Ibrahimpur village under Hatigaon police station area here on Sunday. Five other accused are on the run. The woman’s husband lived in Mumbai and returned home after he found out about his wife’s affair. On the panchayat’s orders, the woman was tied to a tree, her hair chopped off and her face blackened with soot. When the woman’s lover, the father of four children, tried to save her, he was thrashed, ASP (Western), Sanjay Rai said. (PTI)
