Meghalaya karatekas triumph at 8th int’l c’ship

Shillong, Aug 1: Meghalaya’s karate athletes have brought significant accolades to the state, clinching five gold, two silver, and three bronze medals at the 8th International Karate Championship – Indian Challenger Cup 2024. The event took place from July 26th to 28th at the Netaji Indoor Stadium in Kolkata.
A team of twenty-two karatekas from the All Meghalaya Karate-Do Association (AMKA), under the leadership of Miss Ester Mary Lyngdoh and Mr. Pynhunlang Kharbuli, showcased their skills and determination in the prestigious tournament.
The medal winners are – Gold Medals: Phidaiakashisha Lyngdoh: Girls Individual Kumite Cadet -54 kgm Iwannaki L. Khongji: Girls Individual Kumite Cadet -42 kg, Ferrando Wanniang: Boys Individual Kumite 13 years -45 kg, Nongpoknganba T. Kharmawphlang: Boys Individual Kumite 13 years -40 kg, Aibor Jyrwa: Boys Individual Kumite 12 years -40 kg
Silver Medals:, Phindasumarlin Rani: Women Individual Kumite -45 kg, Lapyntngen Mary Lamin: Girls Individual Kumite 12 years -40 kg
Bronze Medals: Cathy Sweety Nongrum: Girls Individual Kumite Junior -42 kg, Feliza Hujon: Girls Individual Kumite Cadet -54 kg, Rupaly Deka: Girls Individual Kumite Cadet -42 kg. The remarkable performance of the AMKA team has not only highlighted their prowess in karate but also brought pride to the state of Meghalaya.
