NONGPOH, Aug 5: A demand for special consideration for local youths in the recruitment for various District Selection Committee posts was placed before the Deputy Commissioner of Ri-Bhoi, Abhilash Baranwal, by the Ri Bhoi People’s Council (RBPC) which met the DC at his office chamber here on Monday.
The purpose of the meeting was to emphasise the need for prioritising local youths in DSC recruitment, similar to practices in the East Khasi Hills, where advertisements explicitly state that DSC posts will prioritise local candidates.
Stating that DSC recruitment in any district of the state should give special attention to local youths, the RBPC insisted that in Ri-Bhoi, DSC posts should primarily be allocated to local candidates.
Speaking to reporters, RBPC president Jayson Lennox Nongrum explained that the reason behind the meeting was to ensure that district authorities prioritise local youths for DSC recruitment. He noted that in East Khasi Hills, advertisements clearly state that DSC posts will prioritise local candidates, and this practice should be adopted in Ri-Bhoi as well.
He further mentioned that the meeting with the DC was fruitful, as he assured the delegation that he would look into the matter raised by the RBPC. The RBPC has also requested the DC to reissue advertisements for government posts, explicitly stating that recruitment would prioritise local youths, as done in East Khasi Hills.
